James Gunn reiterated what he previously said about what fans should expect from "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2." The film director said that the sequel to his success film "Guardians of the Galaxy" will be different.

The director said that "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" touches on the core of what it means to be Guardians. He said the sequel gives viewers a different movie experience.

"This movie can only really be what it is, Guardians can only be what they are, if they're taking a risk," Gunn told USA Today.

Gunn's statement is a bit vague, although according to Comicbook, the director clearly only wants the best for the sequel. The publication claimed that Gunn wants to give viewers a unique Marvel movie experience. He wants the sequel to have its unique story, one that does not revolve too much around the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Gunn said that "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" is a "much different movie" than the first film. Clearly, he wants the sequel to be its own success story too.

In the same interview, the director also looked back at the success of the first "Guardians of the Galaxy" film. He talked about the risks he took to make the movie, which included casting the then unpopular Chris Pratt for the lead role of Peter Quill aka Star-Lord. Gunn admitted that they took chances in making a movie out of one of the unfamiliar storylines in the Marvel Universe. Fortunately, the risks paid off and now fans are ecstatic to see "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" and join the cosmic heroes in another adventure.

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" centers on the theme of family and friendships and introduces Star-Lord's father, Ego the Living Planet (Kurt Russell). The movie opens in US theaters on May 5, 2017.
