Big-time actor Matthew McConaughey was actually meant to be cast as a villain in the upcoming "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" but eventually turned it down for Sony's upcoming film adaptation of Stephen King's "The Dark Tower."

According to an interview with the actor, McConaughey wouldn't actually mind starring at James Gunn's upcoming Marvel's sci-fi sequel but it would "feel like an amendment" for him if he did that.

"I like Guardians of the Galaxy," said the actor. "But what I saw was 'It's successful, and now we've got room to make a colorful part for another big-name actor.'"

As mentioned above, McConaughey was supposed to be given the role of a villain in "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," however it wasn't specified on who it would've been. Nevertheless, it would've been still awesome.

For Sony's upcoming film adaptation of Stephen King's "The Dark Tower," the actor gave high praises for the film based on Stephen King's hit novel, especially on the "well written" script. The script won't be an exact adaptation of the horror, dark fantasy novel, but McConaughey also praised director Nikolaj Arcel as well.

"I like the director and his take on it, and I can be the creator, the author of the Man in Black-a.k.a. the Devil-in my version of this Stephen King novel," he said.

Speaking of the Man in Black, McConaughey's mysterious character in the film, the actor did enjoy him so well, claiming, "I enjoyed approaching my character as if I were the Devil having a good time, getting turned on by exposing human hypocrisies wherever he finds them."

McConaughey also appreciated the fact that while the "The Dark Tower" film may be "a fantastic thriller that takes place in another realm, an alternate universe," it's "very much grounded." He did especially point out that the character of actor Idris Elba, the Gunslinger, uses a pistol rather than other fictional weapons like lightsabers and such.

"The Dark Tower" has moved its premiere date to July 28, 2017.
