A new image from the upcoming film "Wonder Woman" was released showing Gal Gadot in character as she explores World War I.

The image shows Wonder Woman running through the war-torn hellish landscape during the World War I. Director Patty Jenkins said that the film have undelying philosophical conflict that will form part of Wonder Woman's motivation, Empire reported.

"What motivates her is philosophical. She isn't just taking out bad guys or fighting crime. She believes in goodness and love. [She] is fierce and willing to fight, but only to protect a better vision for mankind. Hers is really a coming-of-age story," Jenkins explains.

Jenkins said that she wants to focus on telling the story of a mechanized war and how it would look to a god who visits Earth for the first time. She went to describe the character as someone who comes with a "strong sense of honour and justice who has not realized the dark the world can be," Screen Rant reported.

Judging by the director's comments, this confirms that the upcoming movie will be set before her appearance in "Batman v Superman." Gadot earlier said the film will go back 100 years before her debut in "BvS" where her Diana Prince is still an inexperienced, pure and young idealist.

Furthermore, it sets up a possible conflict of ideology with that of Bruce Wayne who will share screen time with her in the upcoming "Justice League film."  Together with Superman, the two of them reportedly team up again in "Justice League" where they will assemble a team of metahumans to face the global threat of Parademons.

"Wonder Woman" is based on the comic book character of the same name. It is the fourth installment in the DC Extended universe. The upcoming film will tell the story of how she attained her status as a heroine.
