Android 7.0 Nougat has brought a lot of improvements to the Marshmallow OS aside from the rumored much-improved battery life. It also removed the system's Stagefright vulnerability, split screen mode, an enhanced Just In Time (JIT) compiler, a Settings sidebar and an improved Doze feature.

Android devices can now say goodbye to Stagefright because of Android 7.0 Nougat. Stagefright previously affected the media server subsystem of devices and allowed attackers to inject malicious codes via SMS messages. The new mobile OS brought a reworked media framework that prevents the device to be attacked by Stagefright, Pocket-Lint reported.

Android Nougat 7.0 also carried a split screen mode which allows the user to work simultaneously with two apps. A user just needs to long press the multitasking button of the device to select the preferred app. It will then automatically add to the currently running app.

The JIT compiler is also enhanced by Android 7.0 Nougat, Trusted Reviews reported. It is expected to compile apps 75 percent faster than before. As a result, up to 50 percent of apps would take up less space, which will then translate to faster installation and smaller app footprints.

For a much easier navigation, Android 7.0 Nougat brought the Settings sidebar. Instead of navigating into various Settings, users can just swipe right  from the Settings sidebar to reveal the categories contained in the Settings.

Android 7.0 Nougat users could also save more on battery life with the improvement of the Doze feature. The Doze feature switches the device to a low energy mode when the device is at rest with the Marshmallow OS. However, with Android 7.0 Nougat, the Doze feature got smarter as it can also switch to a low energy mode even when the device is just placed inside a bag or a pocket.

Android 7.0 Nougat was released on Aug. 22. It can be downloaded manually or over-the-air (OTA). Watch other Android 7.0 Nougat features here.
