Marvel's "Avengers: Infinity War" co-director Anthony Russo discussed the post-Civil War divisions of superhero teams in the upcoming film.
Following the events of "Civil War," the Avengers initiative is still reeling from the departure of Captain Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) after an emotional feud with Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.). Anthony said that what happened between Stark and Rogers is a difficult place which sets a strong divide with the rest of the Avengers that will be carried all the way to "Infinity War," Independent reported.
Pertaining to the suffered consequences of the division, "On a storytelling level, it is a very difficult place and yes, that is very much the condition of the world as we move forward after Civil War. This very much sets the stage for where Infinity War begins - it's a place of a strong divide," he said.
He went to say that "Infinity War" will deal with the complexities of the conflict in the storytelling. He said that their philosophical approach is to keep the strong character arcs and relationships at the center of the film.
In a separate interview, co-director Joe Russo said that after "Civil War," Steve Rogers has already let go of his identity as Captain America when he dropped his shield in the final minutes of "Civil War."
"I think him dropping that shield is him letting go of that identity... [It's] him admitting that certainly the identity of Captain America was in conflict with the very personal choice that he was making," he told Huffington Post.
Anthony directed "Captain America: Winter Soldier" and "Captain America: Civil War" alongside his brother Joe Russo. The two are now locked in to helm the upcoming two "Avengers" films that will serve as the culmination of everything that has happened within the Marvel Cinematic Universe since its conception.
