Capcom's upcoming "Resident Evil 7" has yet to unveil concrete details about the story, characters, and gameplay. But one thing is for sure, there will be cameos from the previous games.

Gamespot had an interview with current Leon Kennedy voice actor Matt Mercer with him mentioning that the new installment of "Resident Evil" will be "scaling back" in the cameos of past characters. Mercer also shared his thoughts on the game, commending on the direction Capcom is taking to "reestablish their roots and maybe start an original story."

Mercer also added that the direction the series is going reflects on the quality and dedication to maintain the "Resident Evil" name, despite some of the previous titles having a "lukewarm reception." He also hinted that if there is an opportunity to bring back Leon Kennedy in this upcoming title (or even future titles), he will be "eagerly awaiting the phone call."

Leon Kennedy is one of Matt Mercer's favorite characters to work with. He explained that it was an "honor" being in Leon's shoes when he began voicing him in Resident Evil 6. Other titles in the series he voiced in include Resident Evil: Revelations 2, two animated movie adaption and even next year's Resident Evil: Vendetta.

In other news, Capcom has been working on a bunch of new "friendly faces" for the latest game according to TechnoBuffalo. With the photogrammetry process, they use a combination of photographs and 3D computer generated images to create realistic renders for the world and characters.

One such character featured in gameplay demo is Jack Baker, also known as the "Family Man." His appearance is akin to the "grizzled patriarchal figures" from horror classics such as "Texas Chainsaw Massacre," which is nothing else but creepy on all levels.  There are also other new faces joining him but details about them are still withheld.

The gameplay demo also featured a man named Ethan, although, it is still unclear if he will play the role of protagonist in the final release.

"Resident Evil 7" is set for release for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows on Jan. 24, 2017.
