The six seasons of the historical period drama "Downton Abbey" captured the hearts of many viewers in the United Kingdom, the United States, and other countries. Before the series wrapped up in 2015, rumors have surfaced that a film adaptation might be on its way.  Although no plans have been confirmed, fans and supporters, including actress Michelle Dockery, remain hopeful.

"The thing that I miss the most are my cast members," Dockery said, as quoted by The Telegraph. "But we are all still very close. I think there is potential for a film. That is something I would wholeheartedly consider, so we will see. It may not be over yet."

Dockery portrayed Lady Mary Crawley in the series, a role for which she was nominated for a Golden Globe and for an Emmy three times, apart from other nominations. The other cast members of "Downton Abbey" as well as the series itself received numerous awards and nominations, apart from the consistently positive reviews critics have given it.

In March last year, executive producer Gareth Neame said that six seasons and a movie is "not bad," telling Deadline, "It would be a wonderful extension... Julian [Fellowes, series creator] and I would be very interested if we could get our ducks in a row."

In a report by The Telegraph in November last year, Neame said he could not confirm if the movie is going to happen since it would require a lot of planning. He, however, did not say that it's not possible, he just said "we shall see." Also, the Downton team reportedly have pitched several ideas for the movie, although he could not talk about them. Moreover, the publication mentioned Fellowes saying that he has a few ideas and a movie would be fun for them to do.

At this point, there is no confirmation yet of a "Downton Abbey" movie, but that can't stop fans from hoping.
