"NCIS" will return in September, and CBS has already revealed the synopsis of the police procedural drama's Season 14.  Fans of the series can expect to see new cast members and the return of familiar characters.

The synopsis, according to TVLine, reads: "Gibbs' team investigates a car explosion that connects to NCIS Special Agent Nick Torres, who disappeared six months ago while undercover; Gibbs asks NCIS Special Agent Alex Quinn to shadow his team after rejecting eight agents she referred for DiNozzo's vacated position."

Nick Torres, portrayed by Wilmer Valderrama, will be in conflict with Gibbs (Mark Harmon). CBS revealed in July that the character already has a "dynamic relationship" with the NCIS Supervisory Special Agent, and that it could bring some interesting twists into the series. In a quote by Scoop Everyday, Valderrama revealed that two characters are "butting heads" already, like father and son, except that he's the black sheep. The actor will also be seen in a shootout while riding a motorcycle, which indicates an action-packed season ahead.

Meanwhile, Jennifer Esposito of "Blue Bloods" will be seen in the new season as Alex Quinn. Gibbs will entice her to leave her job as instructor at the Law Enforcement Training Center and return to field work as part of his team.

Duane Henry will return as MI6 Officer Clayton Reeves, this time, as a series regular.

However, Michael Weatherly, the actor who portrayed Tony DiNozzo in the past 13 seasons, is already committed to other projects. Still, he has not closed his doors to the series and there's still a chance that his character will appear again the future. He told Deadline in May that he believes in the "NCIS" franchise and that he's open to the possibility of return visits to the show.

"NCIS" Season 14 will premiere on Tuesday, Sept. 20, on CBS.
