The fifth film from the "Underworld" franchise is due for release this December and will again be topbilled by its original star, Kate Beckinsale. The actress has now appeared in the franchise four times as the vampire Selene in this reliant moderately successful film franchise.

According to Screen Rant, "Underworld: Blood Wars" is expected to be released in several international markets by December 1, 2016. However, the US release for "Underworld: Blood Wars" is still on January 6, 2017 as such that its distributor Screen Gems is now on a roll to heavily promote the film.

New clips and teasers are now being released in anticipation of its premiere. In fact, in its newest clip released by Horrors Trailers and Clips, Selena (Kate Beckinsale) was seen attempting to remove a bullet from a new character in the franchise's mythos played by "Divergent" actor Theo James. However, the bullet being removed is far from being an ordinary as it is shown as a new weapon developed by the Lycans, the moral enemies of the vampires.

The clip also showed David (Theo James) revealing that a particular group of Lycans are more advanced and sophisticated than the others. This is an important information which expands what to be expected of "Underworld: Blood Wars" which is picking up 12 years from the events of "Underworld: Awakening".

A new actor is also cast to play the role of Michael, the vampire-lycan hybrid love interest of Selena. Actor Trent Garrett is replacing Scott Speedman who played the role for the first two "Underworld" films. The casting of a new Michael is in anticipation of a sixth film which was already announced, still with Kate Beckinsale tied with the project.

"Underworld: Blood Wars" will be released on Jan. 6, 2017 in the US, following its initial release in Russia last Nov. 24. It is directed by Anna Foerster and under the production of Lakeshore Entertainment.
