Naughty Dog has confirmed that there will be a sequel to the award-winning post-apocalyptic game "The Last of Us." With the previous game being more than just a zombie shoot-'em-up, the sequel will prove to have more twists, drama, and character diversity.

Previous announcements have mentioned that the lead character Ellie will come out as gay in "The Last of Us 2." The game company Naughty Dog will also be bringing more diverse characters and conflicts in the upcoming sequel.

Earlier in a Digital Spy report, there's still little hope that any Naughty Dog announcement on sequel of the survival horror/drama action game will surface before 2016 ends. While some may previously speculate that the game will be released next year, rumors that the game be released on June 2018, which is five years after the first game, might be more probable.  Hopefully next year's E3 might have something to say about it.

Rumors also mentioned that the game would not be released until 2021, but until any official announcement, fans will just keep on speculating about the game.

In other news, Naughty Dog creative director Neil Druckmann mentioned in an interview with The Frame that the "The Last of Us" took more than three years to develop. He stressed that he did write the game to be very centered on character development. One of the enjoyable (and challenging) things that Druckmann did was to write the storyline in a way that branches out in a game progression instead of linear type of storytelling.

Druckmann plans on adding more characters of color in "The Last of Us 2" for diversity, with lead concept character artist, Ashley Swidowski, to assist in the matter.
