The poster for Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt's upcoming film titled "Passengers" has been officially released by Sony. The poster does not offer a lot of details because it merely shows the faces of its two lead stars up close.

An image of the two on set made headlines showing Pratt in a space suit and Lawrence standing next to him inside the spaceship. The official trailer for the film is yet to be released but it is expected to arrive when Sony's "The Magnificent Seven" opens in theaters soon, Screen Rant reported.

"Passengers" follows the developing relationship of Lawrence and Pratt's respective characters throughout their travels in space. The two of them are among the thousands of people who were being transported in a distant colony planet. A spacecraft malfunction that endangers its entire population wakes them up from cryogenic sleep 90 years early. The movie is contemplative of the prospect of growing old and dying in isolation.

"Passenger" director Morten Tyldum ("The Imitation Game") teased that the upcoming sci-fi thriller has the capacity to make its audience cry and laugh at the same time. He went to say that script has been a hot commodity since 2007, Entertainment Weekly reported.

The film is expected to be in awards circle because of its popularity among industry insiders and an awards friendly release date. If "Passengers" will be a hit amongst critics, Tyldum could possibly get his second Oscar nomination as Best Director while Lawrence and Pratt could receive their first and fourth nod respectively.

"Passengers" opens in U.S. theaters on Dec. 21, 2016.
