Actor Chadwick Boseman revealed in an interview that "Black Panther" will be grittier than other films in the MCU. He also revealed how his character will be a game changer for superhero films in general.
After the assassination of his father in "Captain America: Civil War," T'Challa, a.k.a Black Panther (Boseman) is now the new king of Wakanda. Asked about what kind of leader his character will be, he said that Black Panther will not be a selfish ruler, Comic Book Resources reported.
"I feel like you get a chance to see that he's not going to be a selfish ruler. He's not going to be a dictator. He's not going to be a person that does things purely for his own gain," he said. He went to say that while the character does not have much of an appetite about politics, at core, T'Challa is a heroic leader.
Boseman likewise revealed that the tone of the film will be somewhat darker than other MCU films. He went to say that his character will be a big deal because a lot of people want it to happen.
"It's going to be a big deal because there's not just Black people or people of African descent that want to see it, I think everybody wants to see it. That's the beautiful thing." he said.
Earlier talks revealed that the upcoming "Black Panther" solo film will be shrouded by political intrigue. Director Ryan Coogler is still working on the script as of this writing but it has been confirmed that the premise includes a threat to Black Panther's leadership that forces him to get the help of CIA, Screen Rant reported.
As for casting, it has been revealed that Lupita Nyong'o was tapped to play the role of Nakia, a member of elite special forces unit called the Dora Milaje that guards the king of Wakanda. Michael B. Jordan will also join the ensemble as T'Challa's nemesis, Erik Killmonger.
In the comic books, Killmonger staged a coup against Black Panther while the latter was working with the Avengers in America.
