Bandai Namco has announced more details on the upcoming downloadable content of "Dark Souls 3." The expansion called "Ashes of Ariandel" will include a whole new variety of challenges, magic, weapons, armor and an entire new area.

A report from PC Gamer mentions that the DLC's plot has not been fully revealed, however it will be up to the players to "uncover a terrible secret." They will be tasked to travel the frozen lands of Ariandel to uncover the mystery that destroyed the region and defeat the evil lurking in the shadows within. It is also a given that the players will encounter a variety of enemies, bosses and other dangers. They will also uncover "exciting lore to expand the overarching Dark Souls 3 storyline."

There were a number of images from "Ashes of Ariandel" that alluded to a much earlier expansion from the first "Dark Souls" game called "Painted World of Ariamis," according to Gamespot. The setting of Ariandel is similar to the Painted World with its harsh, snowy environmental overtone. Players will also encounter an enemy similar to the Crow Demon.

There are also interesting things to take note of as well regarding the possible connection of "Painted World of Ariamis" with "Ashes of Ariandel." The dragon cross-breed boss Priscilla from the Painted World will not be present in Ariandel, but it is speculated that Yorshka, a character who bears striking similarities to Priscilla, may have connections between the two. But, then again, all will still be revealed in the actual release.

In other news, "Dark Souls" creator Hidetaka Miyazaki announced that From Software has begun working on a new title, but does not plan to work on another sequel for highly acclaimed action role-playing game. Although the possibility for that to happen is still uncertain, Miyazaki said that "personally Dark Souls is over."

"Ashes of Ariandel" is available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows PC for $15. The season pass is also available at $25. It is the first of two DLC expansions, in which the second one is planned for release early on 2017.
