Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie divorce rumors: Did the actress attempt suicide due to jealousy?

Hollywood power couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie made headlines recently, after rumors about their divorce and Jolie's apparent suicide began making rounds in social media.

The couple, who reportedly fell in love while filming "Mr and Mrs. Smith" in 2004, has constantly been hounded my divorce rumors. The public's speculations were further fueled this year, when Pitt got in touch with former wife Jennifer Aniston after her mother's death last March. Hollywood gossip websites frequently attribute Jolie's bouts of jealousy to Pitt's relationship with the "Friends" actress. Pitt and Aniston dated for two years before tying the knot in 2000. They announced their divorce in 2005.

Following the Aniston reunion rumors, Pitt and Jolie's marital woes were again subject of controversy, after a scam website spread rumors about Jolie's suicide, driven allegedly by her jealousy over Pitt's closeness with Academy Award winning actress Marion Cotillard. The "World War Z" star and the French actress both play spies in Robert Zemeckis' upcoming World War II romantic thriller, "Allied."

Last week, a malicious Facebook post supposedly linking to Jolie's pre-suicide "farewell" video was shared around social media. False reports claimed that the "Maleficent" star died several days prior, and that the video contained her farewell message to her family and fans.

Jolie's suicide was immediately proven to be a mere hoax, however, when a few days later she was seen casually strolling around a mall in Los Angeles. According to InStyle, the actress was spotted shopping with her children Pax, 12, and Zahara, 11.

Aside from Jolie, a number of celebrities have also fallen prey to death hoax scams in recent months. As mentioned in Australia Network News, the list includes Jaden Smith, Vin Diesel, Nicolas Cage, John Cena and Jim Carrey.
