In a bid to keep the theme of "American Horror Story's" sixth season shrouded in mystery, the creators of the hit supernatural television show decided to release a handful of cryptic teasers ahead of the season's premiere next month.

While avid viewers are left puzzled as to the varying, seemingly unrelated settings of each of the teasers, FX Networks CEO John Landgraf finally confirmed what "American Horror Story" viewers have all been theorizing about since the videos were released - only one, among the slew of hypothetical teasers, depicts next season's mystery accurately.

At a Television Critics Association (TCA) panel discussion recently, Landgraf revealed that the network's marketing team decided to release various trailers depicting different places and genres as a way to drum up interest in the upcoming season.

"We just thought it would be really fun to keep it a mystery this year. And we are," Landgraf revealed.

For the uninitiated, "American Horror Story" is an award-winning anthology horror series tackling a variety of characters and plots every season, the stories of which are inspired by true events. For months now, fans have been left speculating over next season's theme, mainly because previously released trailers have showcased distinctly unrelated settings. As enumerated by Variety, previously released teaser trailers have featured a baby's crib with knives hanging over it, a remote farmhouse with smoke billowing out of its chimney, a woman being chased down the stairs into darkness and a centipede scuttling down Lady Gaga's face. Gaga, whose performance as The Countess last season earned her a Golden Globe award, is slated to return in a yet unidentified role next month. Other returnees include Angela Bassett (Seasons 3, 4 and 5), Cheyenne Jackson (Season 5), Matt Bomer (Seasons 4 and 5) and Leslie Jordan (Season 3).

While "American Horror Story" fans could merely speculate until the new season premieres, show co-creator Ryan Murphy has earlier revealed a vague clue that may help - or further confuse - those who are waiting in anticipation for September's revelation. Murphy mentioned that the upcoming season would deal with children in some way, according to Cinemablend.Whether or not this is a legitimate clue (or perhaps another one of the show's misdirects), no one but the producers know for certain.
