"Gotham" actress Jamie Chung joins the cast as Valerie's landlord or quasi-roommate in Hulu's comedy series "Casual" Season 3. It seems that Valerie will soon be shacking up with Mulan.
According to Variety, Chung will play the recurring role of Tina in "Casual" Season 3. Her character is described as a pretty, debt-free, self-confident part-time freelance artist whose parents bought her a house near the main characters. "The Back-up Plan" actress Michaela Watkins plays Valerie Meyers.
"Casual" focuses on a divorcee trying to raise her teenage daughter Valerie as she lives with her carefree younger brother. As they adjust to their new circumstances, each one embarks on a series of 'casual' relationships with other people to help them deal with their newfound settings.
In the plot of "Casual" Season 3, the surprising consequences following the death of Charles Cole ("Lady Dynamite" actor Fred Melamed) and the decision of Valerie to move out propel Meyers, Alex Cole ("17 Again" actor Tommy Dewey), and Laura Meyers ("God Bless America" actress Tara Lynne Barr) to rebel, Deadline reported. They get to explore different jobs, partners, and unfulfilled passions.
The questions lie as to whether Valerie, Alex, and Laura can maintain boundaries or revert to the comfort of co-dependency as they adjust to a new normal in "Casual" Season 3. To recall, Season 2 ended with Valerie deciding to move out.
Zander Lehmann created "Casual" with the Lionsgate and Right of Way production. Executive producers include Jason Reitman, Zander Lehmann, Helen Estabrook, with Liz Tigelaar as the showrunner. The show was nominated for Best Television Series - Musical or Comedy at the 73rd Golden Globes.
Chung most recently recurred as Vicki Vale's Aunt Valerie in "Gotham" and as Mulan in "Once Upon A Time." She appeared in the feature "Office Christmas Party," which was released on Dec. 9, 2016. She is represented by Gersh and 3 Arts Entertainment.
The Golden Globe-nominated show "Casual" Season 3 is currently in production for its premiere on Hulu on May 23, Tuesday.
