"Gotham" actress Morena Baccarin is in negotiations to star in NBC legal pilot drama from "Felicity" Tony Krantz and "Numb3rs" Ken Sanzel. She has found a part that is even more complicated than being Jim Gordon's ex.

According to TV Line, Baccarin will play a former cop with the same name Morena in the untitled NBC drama. Her character is now a powerful attorney who defends the New York City police officers in a wide range of cases. She navigates the ever-changing landscape of New York City politics, law enforcement, and the justice system, all while juggling a complicated personal life.

Baccarin is also attached as an executive producer of the untitled NBC drama with Krantz, Sanzel, and Elliot Halpern. Co-exec producers are Drew Comins of Flame Ventures, Elizabeth Trojian of Yap Films, and Sarah Jackson. Flame Venture, ITV Studios, and Over the Pond Production are producing.

The script of the untitled NBC drama will be written by Sanzel. It is described as "The Good Wife meets The Wire." It started with Halpern of Yap Films, who has a childhood friend which is a defense attorney representing cops in internal investigations.

Baccarin is currently seen as the series-regular Dr. Leslie 'Lee' Thompkins in "Gotham." She has no plans to leave the Fox series and will not be written out, Variety reported. If the untitled NBC drama gets picked up, she will still continue her presence on "Gotham" in a recurring capacity for as long as the series is on the air.

Baccarin is represented by UTA. She recently landed a guest-starring role in Showtime's comedic anthology pilot "Mating," from "Parenthood" executive producer Jason Katims. She made an appearance on ABC's sci-fi drama "V," which ran for two seasons from 2009 to 2011.

Baccarin also starred on "Homeland," which landed her an Emmy nomination. She is also known from "Stargate," plus "Firefly," and the follow-up film "Serenity." She recently had an arc on "The Flash" and also seen in Ryan Reynolds' box office smash "Deadpool."

The untitled NBC drama marks producer-director Krantz's return to NBC where he executive produced the series "Dracula."
