"Avatar" director James Cameron said that a revival of the "Terminator" film franchise is entirely possible.

In an interview, Cameron discussed the things that happened to the franchise since he stepped away from it. He also had some suggestions on how the franchise could be brought back to form, The Daily Beast reported.

"I think it's possible to tell a great Terminator story now, and it's relevant. We live in a digital age, and Terminator ultimately, if you can slow it down, is about our relationship with our own technology, and how our technology can reflect back to us-and in the movie, literally, in a human form that is a nemesis and a threat," he said.

For the uninitiated, "Terminator" paved the way for Cameron to step into the directorial spotlight since it started in 1984. The last time that Cameron had a hand in the project was 26 years ago way back in 1991 with "Terminator 2."

Since then, the franchise had seemingly lost its relevance in the modern times garnering less than favorable reviews for its last three installments. Cameron is making the case that the future "Terminator" installments could be narrowed down in terms of human vs technology.

"In a time when people are being absorbed by their virtual-social world, I mean, just look around. I always say: if Terminator was about the war between the humans and the machines, look around any restaurant or airport lounge and tell me the machines haven't won when every human you see is enslaved to their device. So could you make a relevant Terminator film now? Absolutely," he explains.

Cameron will reportedly team up with "Deadpool" director Tim Miller to reboot the franchise, Deadline reported.

Further details about the project's continuity are yet to be unveiled. The only thing that is clear as of now is that Cameron will gain full control of the franchise in 2019.
