According to Anime News Network, "Godzilla: King of Monsters" is currently being slated for release on March 22, 2019. The sequel film for the fictional giant monster from Japanese tokusatsu films will be based on scripts from Michael Dougherty and Zach Shields.

Another film from the Godzilla mythos is scheduled for release on May 29, 2020. This will be the planned crossover film tentatively titled "Godzilla vs. Kong" and as of this writing, the plot of the film is still unknown.

The director of the "Godzilla" film has already exited the sequel film and Deadline reported that the split was an amicable one for for Legendary, Warner Bros and Edwards, who helmed the first film in the series in 2014.

Meanwhile, "Pacific Rim: Uprising" is expected to debut on February 23, 2018 after filming has already begun in Sydney, Australia. However, Anime News Network reported that a portion of the film will be shot in China.

An executive of Beijing Wanda Cultural Industry Group, owner of Legendary Entertainment, said that "Pacific Rim: Uprising" is featuring a story that has "a strong connection to China". Playing the sequel's lead role is John Boyega, who played Finn in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens".

Boyega's character will be the son of Stacker Pentecost, the character played by Idris Alba in the first "Pacific Rim" film. Playing opposite of Boyega is actress and singer Cailee Spaeny, who is cast in the lead female role.

Also part of the film are Scott Eastwood (Suicide Squad), Jing Tian (The Great Wall), Adria Arjona (The Belko Experiment), and Japanese actor Mackenyu. Shyrley Rodriguez (The Get Down) and Chinese actor Zhang Jin (The Grandmaster) have also joined the cast, with appearances of several other Chinese and Korean actors.
