"End of Watch" actor David Castaneda joins "A Perfect Day" star Benicio Del Toro and "Hail, Caesar!" actor Josh Brolin in Lionsgate's "Soldado." He stars in the follow-up to the 2015 hit "Sicario."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Castaneda is joining the cast of "Soldado" in a supporting role as a smuggler named Hector based on the American side of the border. The "Sicario" sequel will center on the two recurring characters, namely, the hitman Alejandro played by Del Toro and the Central Intelligence Agency officer Matt Graver played by Brolin in the Denis Villeneuve-directed original film.

"Soldado" will be a completely different story, with just two of the characters that were seen in the critically acclaimed "Sicario," Variety reported. Brolin and Del Toro will try to provoke a war within the Sonoran drug cartel by kidnapping the daughter Isabel Reyes of the cartel's top gangster.

"Soldado" is directed by "Gomorra" Italian helmer Stefano Sollima. It was scripted by "Sicario" scribe Taylor Sheridan. It is being produced by Thunder Road's Basil Iwanyk, Black Label's Molly Smith, and Thad and Trent Luckinbill. Edward McDonnell is also producing.

Castaneda also joins "Shut Eye" actor Jeffrey Donovan (Steve Forsing) and "Little Pink House" actress Catherine Keener (undisclosed role) who was also recently announced to be added in "Soldado." Lionsgate and Black Label are co-financing.

Castaneda is represented by Don Buchwald and Associates and Colin Stark Management. He recently appeared in the Sony's horror-comedy "Freaks Of Nature," opposite Vanessa Hudgens and Bob Odenkirk. He also booked roles in Amazon's comedy pilot "The Legend of Master Legend," alongside John Hawkes, and the NBC drama series "Blindspot," with Jaimie Alexander and Sullivan Stapleton.

Currently filming, the "Soldado" crew is adding Castaneda to its ranks as the sequel is expected to be released in theaters in the second half of 2017.
