"Scandal" has a new character to introduce when it returns for its sixth season on ABC.

According to Deadline, the political drama starring Kerry Washington has cast Zoe Perry in a secret recurring role. The actress is the daughter of Jeff Perry, who plays the devious Cyrus Beene on the show. No word yet if Zoe's character will be part of Cyrus' storyline in the new season.

Zoe's recent TV credits include fellow Shondaland series "Grey's Anatomy" and "Private Practice."

"Scandal" Season 6 will open on the day of the presidential election, an event which will determine if Mellie will finally be able to take over the White House. If she wins, Jake Ballard will be the new veep - which could mean a lot of complications for Olivia.

Mellie's opponent, Frankie Vargas, is running with Cyrus Beene.

At this point, no solid clues have been dropped about how the election will play out. Fans may recall that in previous seasons, "Scandal" has featured the storyline of a rigged election during Fitz' term. If that's any indication, fans of the political series might as well just expect for a new bombshell to emerge as the season progresses.

In the trailer released earlier by ABC, it was teased that Olivia and Fitz are fighting again over a pretty serious issue. What's more, the clip also revealed that an explosion will occur. Fans have yet to tune in on the premiere to find out if that bombing incident is part of a new politically-driven arc plotted by the show's evildoers: Cyrus or Rowan.

Created and executive produced by Shonda Rhimes, "Scandal" is a political drama that follows Olivia Pope and her team of Gladiators, who are the best in the field when it comes to "fixing" things in the middle of a high-pressured crisis.

The series also stars Tony Goldwyn, Scott Foley, Darby Stanchfield, Katie Lowes, Guillermo Diaz, Bellamy Young, Joshua Molina, Portia de Rossi and Cornelius Smith Jr.

"Scandal" Season 6 premieres Jan. 19 at 9 p.m on ABC.
