Pokémon Go from Niantic caught the world's attention by introducing an AR and GPS based game that encourages players to actually go out and catch virtual monsters. But as far as AR and GPS games go, Niantic's virtual pet hunting game is not the only one out there that everyone should consider.

7 Minute Superhero Workout

Here's a unique take on getting you on shape without even knowing it: become a superhero that protects the world from alien invasion. Players don't have mash virtual buttons in their mobile phones to protect the earth but they have to work out to defeat the enemy. The game instructs the players with specific exercises they have to do in order to achieve their mission objectives.

According to their official Google Play page, the game will take players through 20 different missions with seven minute workout. The game is also optimized for Chromecast for wide screen options.

Parallel Kingdom MMO

If Pokémon Go is featured as a medieval game with additional nifty features such as chat rooms, it should look like Parallel Kingdom MMO. According to Mobi Picker, players are tasked to go on various quests to slay different types of monsters instead of collecting virtual pets for battles.

The most interesting feature of the game is on its location-based gaming where players establish their base against other players. Once a player establishes his location, his base could be the place for everything - including a battle challenge from other player.

Ingress

Pokémon Go is not the first game made by Niantic for GPS-based gaming since that honor belongs to Ingress. A GPS-based game, it nearly has the same gameplay with Pokémon Go but the player's objective is to hack an established portal of the enemy (just like a Pokémon gym). Players can then build the portal by levelling up in order to properly defend it from other hackers.

These three AR and GPS-based games can get you fit while defeating aliens, create a kingdom just like the medial times and hack your way to world domination. If you're a bit tired of throwing Pokeballs to a Ratata, these games should get you to appreciate AR and GPS once again.
