HBO has reportedly revealed that a "Game of Thrones" prequel series is being considered behind the scenes.

In an interview, HBO programming president Casey Bloys confirmed that a spin-off is in fact currently in talks. To date, HBO is currently evaluating several materials about the history of Westeros where the potential prequel series could be based on, Entertainment Weekly reported.

"I would say it's still kind of preliminary ongoing talks. There are areas we are exploring, but I wouldn't point to any one and say, 'This is what we're going to do.'"

Asked whether a final episode for the final season of "Game of Thrones" had already been determined, he said, "I'll take as much as we can get." HBO had announced that Season 8 will be the last season of "Game of Thrones."

Recently, after the series' big win at the Emmy's, "GoT" creator George R.R. Martin hinted something about the future of the "Game of Thrones universe." He teased about a thousand pages about everything that happened in the past that ultimately led to the events in the series, Deadline reported.

"I do have thousands of pages of fake history of everything that led up to Game of Thrones, so there's a lot of material there and I'm writing more," he said.

One of the more popular series is the "Tales of Dunk and Egg," set 70 years before the events of "A Song of Ice and Fire" novels where "GoT" is loosely based on. Martin has said that it would be the most natural follow-up but he opined that the "Dunk and Egg" stories would be more ideal as a two-hour stand-alone movie for television rather than a weekly ongoing series.
