Japanese tech company Nikon recently announced its entry into the rugged action camera market along with three of its flagship products. Nikon's rugged action cameras will be marketed under the KeyMission brand.
Nikon unveiled three models: the KeyMission 360, the KeyMission 170, and the KeyMission 80. As the names suggest, the KeyMission 360 will feature a 360-degree camera. On the other hand, the KeyMission 170 will be a traditional action camera with 4K resolution that is similar to a GoPro. Lastly, the KeyMission 80 is a wearable camera that, based from its looks and specs, will be marketed towards life-bloggers.
According The Verge, the KeyMission 360 will cost $499. The camera debuted at this year's Consumer Electronics Show in January, although Nikon did not provide ample details during that time. The KeyMission 360 uses two separate lenses in order to capture 360-degree videos in 4K resolution. Each of these lenses have f2.0 apertures along with 20-megapixel CMOS sensors.
The KeyMission 170 will cost $399 and looks like a more rugged version of the GoPro Hero 4 Silver. The camera features a rounded rectangular body and it has an f2.0 lens. The camera has an LCD screen embedded on its back, but it does not have touchscreen capabilities. Instead, the camera has three buttons located right next to the screen to allow users to navigate through the menu and change settings as well.
The KeyMission 170 is waterproof for up to 33 feet and shockproof for up to 6.6 feet. Nikon said that it will also sell a waterproof case for the KeyMission 170 which will allow the camera to go deeper up to 131 feet. The camera can also handle temperatures as cold as 14 degrees Fahrenheit, according to Digital Trends.
Lastly, the KeyMission 80 will cost $279. It features 12 megapixel front-facing camera, and a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera. The KeyMission 80 will sport a 1.75-inch touchscreen LCD.
All three Nikon KeyMission cameras will hit the market in October.
