Casey Affleck is set to star and direct in the independent survival drama "Light of My Life" from his own script. He definitely has set his sights on his next project, making him the Ben Affleck of the independent-film world.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the younger Affleck just signed on for his next project "Light of My Life." The project is an original survival-based drama. It revolves around a father and his young daughter who are lost and trapped in the woods. The plot details are still thin right now.
Affleck is repped by WME. He is already generating awards buzz for his performance in "Manchester by the Sea." He played the role of a man returning to his hometown to handle with the death of his older brother. He is forcibly being made the guardian of his nephew. Michelle Williams and Kyle Chandler are his co-stars. Kenneth Lonergan is the director.
The "Manchester by the Sea" movie is just screened as a Special Presentation at the ongoing Toronto International Film Festival, as Variety reported. It premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. Amazon Studios is partnering with Roadside Attractions for a theatrical release on Nov. 18.
Affleck last directed the faux-documentary "I'm Still Here" that centers on Joaquin Phoenix's rap career. As an actor, he had an Oscar nomination for best supporting actor in "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford" back in 2007. His most recent credits are crime-drama film "Triple 9" alongside Chiwetel Ejiofor, Anthony Mackie, Teresa Palmer, Aaron Paul, and Kate Winslet; and disaster drama film "The Finest Hours" with Chris Pine and Ben Foster.
The producers have not yet been set for the "Light of My Life." Black Bear Pictures will be producing and financing it. It is unclear when the movie would begin shooting.
