Rumors that the Brooklyn Nets are planning to offer wingman Bojan Bogdanovic and a future second round draft pick to the Sacramento Kings in exchange for Rudy Gay has been circling around these days.
It is no secret that the Kings are trying to shop their disgruntled small forward since last February's trade deadline and a lot of trade rumors have surfaced since then.
The latest is the trade scenario that could send 27-year-old Croatia international Bogdanovic along with a second round selection to Sacramento for Gay, who is also rumored to be being pursued by the Houston Rockets and Minnesota Timberwolves at the moment, according to Chat Sports.
The report noted that while the newly-turned 30-year-old Gay's age could be a concern for the Nets, the former Connecticut standout is "still playing solid basketball" at this point of his career.
Last season, his 10th in the league and third in Sacramento, Gay averaged 17.2 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 1.7 assists in 34.0 minutes of playing time per night. He is also only a year moved from producing a career-high average on points and assists with 21.1 and 3.7 in the previous season, which he still has a lot to give for any interested team.
Acquiring Gay would truly help Brooklyn a lot as the number three position had been the team's weakness in the past several seasons. He can also help ease some of the offensive burden off the shoulders of big man Brooklyn Lopez, who is also involved in several trade rumors these past weeks.
Meanwhile, if the Kings approve on the said trade scenario, then they will have an instant replacement for Gay at the small forward spot with Bogdanovic, who can also slide to shooting guard when needed, which is another position of need in Sacramento.
Meanwhile, Fansided indicated that while the Kings look great on paper last season with DeMarcus Cousins, Rajon Rondo, Darren Collison, and Gay, their combination "did not transfer into wins" as the lineup lacked "chemistry and identity".
To manager that, Sacramento allowed Rondo to join the Chicago Bulls this summer and trading Gay could be the next best move for the Kings to finally have the chance to break through to the playoffs next year.
