Former no. 1 pick Kwame Brown is reportedly planning a return to the NBA at age 34 as announced by his current sports agency, Interperformances.
Dime Magazine reported that Brown, who last played for the Philadelphia 76ers during the 2012-2013 season, has "signed on with" Interperformances in "hopes of landing another NBA gig", although he may be "a hard sell" to most NBA teams at this stage of his career.
"Interperformances is proud to announce that the NBA star Kwame Brown decided to sign with our agency," the sports outfit said in a statement in their website. "The #1 overall pick of the 2001 draft is ready for a new life. His comeback can be the road to glory for a team that believes in him. Kwame is back, physically healthy and ready to be the outstanding player he was on several NBA teams."
"A great intimidator that can block shots, rebound consistently and explode in devastating dunks. No longer the young man that entered the NBA, Kwame is now an experienced and mature player and man. And he's back, for the love of the game," the statement further read.
Some analysts think that the agency is evidently overselling Brown and his current status as a basketball player, which is what is expected of them to do as the former Glynn Academy standout's representatives, but the chances of any team signing him this coming season is definitely slim.
However, CBS Sports' Zach Harper noted that the sports agency's statement did not specifically mention an NBA comeback is in Brown's mind, so he could just be making a return to playing basketball even for other leagues outside the NBA, such as the Chinese Basketball Association or any European professional leagues.
It is not hard to wonder, though, if Brown's motive of coming back could be the recent big-money spending happening around the NBA right now. It is rumored to be the same reason why all the other "retired" players are also thinking of a potential comeback, like Ray Allen, Derrick Fisher, and Stephen Jackson to name a few.
Harper mentioned that "big men always tend to get overvalued or overpaid in free agency" in the NBA, which is perhaps why Brown wants to take a gamble and make himself available this offseason for any interested team.
