There has not been much announcement about the release date of "The Winds of Winter," the latest book in the series "A Song of Ice and Fire." It was also reported that the series author George R. R. Martin admitted to taking his time in finishing the book but  assures that it will be released soon.

While fans may hope that the book may be released any time this year, there have not been any confirmed reports to back up those speculations. With only four more months left for this year, fans might expect George R. R. Martin's latest book probably around 2017 to be published.

iTech Post reports that the 67-year-old author mentioned in an interview that he admits to be a "slow and painstaking writer." As with most writers' struggle, George R. R. Martin has had good and bad days in the process of writing the storyline.

Additionally, Vine Report states that the author also mentioned about the the 20th anniversary illustrated edition of the first book, "A Game of Thrones" being released. It was also suggested that he may be deliberately delaying the book until the TV adaptation from HBO ends. It is possible that the "Game of Thrones" is actually making him do revisions and polishing in the book to avoid messing up the whole story.

George R. R. Martin also stated in his "Not a Blog" post that he will be making a public appearance and attending the 74th World Science Fiction Convention (Worldcon) 2016 in Kansas City, Missouri. The author will have a whole schedule of activities lined up for him, ranging from autograph signing to panel appearances.

In an addition to that, fans are refrained from asking Martin to pose for photographs or sign books during the event except during his schedule activies. He mentioned that he already had the event planned for himself for those things and wants to enjoy the event just like everybody else.

Earlier in July, fans were hoping that Martin will finally open up about the release date of  'The Winds of Winter" at Worldcon. The author, unfortunately, had not mentioned anything short of an upcoming special announcement in a more recent blog.
