The world of "The Flash" and "Supergirl" will merge for a two-part musical episode. The news was announced on Thursday at the Television Critics Association (TCA) summer press tour. It will be aired on the CW during the second half of the 2016-2017 TV season.

In light of several developments abound on "The Flash" and "Supergirl," the producers of the DC shows have revealed another exciting news for their growing number of fans. TV Line has learned that this upcoming TV season will feature a two-part musical episode led by series stars Melissa Benoist and Grant Gustin. The duo is not new to the musical arena, having performed production numbers on multiple episodes of FOX's "Glee."

"Yes, there will be a musical crossover," executive producer Greg Berlanti said.

"There's going to be a musical pair of episodes in the back half of the year between Supergirl and The Flash."

Berlanti shared his early plans for the musical, telling reporters that his team have been talking about composing at least one original song per episode. Aside from Gustin and Benoist, Berlanti hints that Jeremy Jordan (Supergirl) and Jesse L. Martin (The Flash) alongside John Barrowman (Arrow) and Victor Garber (Legends of Tomorrow) will also be showing off their singing chops on the said installment.

The musical event of "The Flash" and "Supergirl" will feature an appearance of a villain and some songs will be played through the characters' own imagination, Berlanti further shared. As usual, plot details have not been disclosed by the showrunner. Fans have yet to wait for further developments in the coming weeks.

Cast member Jeremy Jordan, meanwhile, has already expressed his excitement about the news via a status posted on Twitter. The actor asked his followers to read an article announcing the special event which he described as "epic." On "Supergirl," Jordan plays the character of Winn Schott, Kara's best friend.

"Supergirl" and "The Flash" will return with new episodes this fall on the CW.
