"Star Wars Rogue One" will feature new characters as well as characters from its prequels. Jimmy Smits will reprise his role as Bail Organa.

Aside from Darth Vader's appearance, Forest Whittaker will play a role that appeared in "The Clone Wars" animated series. Additionally, the same character will make a comeback from the "Star Wars" movie prequels, GameSpot reported.

Smits played the role of Bail Organa in 2002's "Star Wars: Attack of the Clones" and in 2005's "Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith," wherein he became Princess Leia's adoptive father when she was just an infant.

"Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" would be the initial movie in the series of Star Wars Anthology. The film's production began in August 2015 and is affixed between "Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope" and "Revenge of the Sith." The movie focuses more on Episode IV where Rebel Alliance will steal Death Star plans from the Galactic Empire.

According to Den of Geek, the screenplay was originally written by Gary Whitta and was then handled by Chris Weitz  when the former left the project. However, a little more help is needed that is why Christopher McQuarrie became involved in the film's production to attune it.

McQuarrie has been fixing screenplay for many years, in addition to creating his reserve screenplays such as "The Usual Suspects." He is also into directing movies such as"Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation."

"Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" is helmed by Gareth Edwards and produced by Lucasfilm. Casts include Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Felicity Jones, Forest Whitaker, Diego Luna, Felicity Jones, Alan Tudyk, Mads Mikkelsen, and Riz Ahmed.

Lucasfilm announced that it will air a new trailer of the movie on Aug. 11 as a segment of the Rio Olympics. "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" is slated to be released on Dec. 16, 2016.
