"Suicide Squad" star Jared Leto said that he wished film would have shown the deleted Joker scenes.

In an interview, the actor opined that "Suicide Squad" would have fared better among critics if it was released as a rated R film. Leto said that he lobbied for the film to be rated R even before they started production, he said to BBC Radio 1 via Batman News.

"I always wished this film was rated R, and I had actually said that when we were starting. It felt like if a film was ever going to be rated R it should be the one about the villains," he said.

Leto said that some of the favorite work he's ever done in a movie was cut. He also went to say that there would have been enough footage to even make an entire film about Joker.

"I think that I brought so much to the table in every scene that it was probably more about filtering all of the insanity, because I wanted to give a lot of options, and I think there's probably enough footage in this film for a Joker movie,"

According to the actor, they shot scenes that depicts a different relationship between The Joke and Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn which is depicted as more savage and abusive in nature. Unfortunately for "Suicide Squad," The Joker got a measly 10 minutes of screen time at most.

Leto's went at great lengths for the role as a method actor as he stayed in character throughout filming, E! Online reported. He went so far as spooking his co-stars with peculiar gifts that matched the personality of the character he is portraying.

Despite the negative reception by critics, "Suicide Squad" still managed to break box-office records upon amassing $135 million on its opening weekend. There is no word yet if a director's cut version of the film will be released but Leto is not holding his breath.

"If I were to die tomorrow maybe the studio would roll something out," he said.
