"Tom Clancy's The Division," the highly successful open world third-person shooting game, will be getting a movie adaptation. Jake Gyllenhaal ("Brokeback Mountain," "End of Watch," "Nightcrawler") and Jessica Chastain ("The Martian," "Zero Dark Thirty," "Interstellar") were chosen to be in the lead roles.

Game developer and publisher Ubisoft made the announcement on their official blog, Ubiblog, that a full blown movie of their popular shooter game will hit the big screen soon. It will be released under the publisher's film studio, Ubisoft Motion pictures. The company also confirmed that aside from Chastain and Gyllenhaal contributing their award-winning acting skills, their respective production companies, Freckle Films and Nine Stories, are also joining the production process.

"The pandemic-stricken streets of The Division are filled with countless stories of love, loss, treachery, and heroism, but we'll have to wait to find out what avenues the film will explore," the announcement added.

The actor is not new to this kind of setup. He also starred in "Prince of Persia: Sands of Time" as Dastan back in 2010. This was also from Ubisoft.

The company also mentioned that their other games are also lined-up to hit the theaters soon. The games that are currently in production are "Watch Dogs," "Ghost Recon," "Splinter Cell," and "Rabbids." The company is also busy with the production of "Assassin's Creed" that will hit the big screen on Dec. 21 which stars Michael Fassbender.

The rumor about "The Division" movie started back in June, just a few months after the game was released. No names have been revealed for its director or writer, but the names of the two actors were already hinted previously for the lead roles, Screen Rant reported.

USA Today added that "Tom Clancy's The Division" has sold S330 million worth of copies in its first week alone, and it is said to be the best-selling game for a new game franchise not only for Ubisoft but also for the whole industry.

No release date is set for "The Division" the movie.
