Jason O'Mara has joined the cast of "Marvel's Agents of SHIELD" Season 4. The actor, whose known for his roles on "Terra Nova" and "The Good Wife," has been tapped to play the new director of SHIELD.

According to Entertainment Weekly, O'Mara's character description and identity on "Agents of SHIELD" Season 4 are still being kept under wraps for now. However, the publication confirmed that O'Mara is playing a Marvel character that goes way back to the 1940s.

Executive producer and Marvel's head of TV Jeph Loeb has previewed how O'Mara's character will impact "Agents of SHIELD" Season 4 - saying that "bringing Jason into the mix as the New Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. forces everyone, particularly Coulson, to reevaluate their role in the Agency."

"Jason has both the physical presence and acting dynamics that will connect with and challenge even the most loyal agent," he continued.

In other casting news, "Agents of SHIELD" has also added "How to Get Away With Murder" and "Major Crimes" actress Lilli Birdshell to its Season 4 cast, Deadline has learned.

Birdshell will be introduced on "Agents of SHIELD" Season 4 as Lucy, who's described as a beautiful woman with a haunting quality. Lucy possesses a violent streak in her inner self after experiencing not so pleasant events in her life.

O'Mara and Birdshell join previously cast Gabriel Luna who will take on the role of Ghost Rider in Season 4.
