A lot of information regarding the rumored 2016 Google Nexus smartphone have been leaked, and several tech forums continue to provide hints about what the upcoming device will be like. The latest information to surface is a render that reveals that the upcoming Google Nexus smartphone with a codename HTC Nexus Marlin will have a 5.5-inch display and will be the flagship device for the Android 7.0 Nougat operating system.

Google, for several years already, have always used its Nexus line of devices to launch its newest mobile operating system. Coincidentally, HTC and Google have collaborated to create the first Google smartphone which is the Nexus One released in 2010 and run on the Android 2.1 éclair operating system.

Over the years, Google had tapped several tech companies to create its flagship Nexus devices. Among the companies Google worked with are Motorola, LG, Samsung, and most recently Huawei.

According to Tech Times, HTC is tasked to develop two Nexus devices. These devices are codenamed "Marlin" and "Sailfish." Both devices, although still unconfirmed, have popped up on several benchmarking websites giving the tech community a glimpse of their hardware specs.

According to Mobile&Apps, the HTC Nexus Marlin will have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset with 4GB of memory and 128GB storage space. It features an aluminum case which closely resembles that of the HTC 10, the company's latest flagship device. The Nexus logo is imprinted on the rear of the smartphone, just below the phone's camera and fingerprint scanner.

On the camera aspect, the HTC Nexus Marlin has a 12-megapixel rear facing camera and an 8-megapixel front facing selfie shooter. There are rumors claiming that the smartphone will have a dual-camera setup, but these rumors were not backed by any leaked render to support the claim.

Google is expected to unveil its upcoming series of Nexus devices late September or early in October. The event is also said to coincide with the official launch of the Android 7.0 Nougat operating system.
