Two days after attempting suicide at his Southern Seoul home, South Korean actor Kim Seong Min was pronounced brain dead on Sunday, June 26.
At a press conference held by the medical team who handled Kim’s medical case, the 43-year-old actor's brain is said to have stopped functioning at around 8:45 am.
"The family said Kim's organs would be donated as he had wished. His organs kidneys, liver, and corneas will be given to five people," a hospital representative stated, according to The Korea Times.
Kim had a surgical operation for the removal of his organs at around 6 p.m. on June 26.
Kim attempted suicide by hanging himself last week Friday. His body was discovered by the police at around 2 a.m. and was immediately brought to the hospital.
Specialists tried to induce Kim using therapeutic hypothermia, a treatment where a patient’s core body temperature is intentionally reduced after a cardiac arrest. However, the treatment was not effective as his condition has become more severe.
Prior the incident, Kim had an argument with his wife that led the latter to leave the house with their son. However, she called the police and asked them to check out on him as he often talked about committing suicide every time he is under the influence of alcohol.
Kim is widely known for his role in the TV Dramas like ‘Miss Mermaid,’ ‘Lotus Flower Fairy,’ and ‘Qualifications of Men.’ His funeral was held on June 28.
