Just as fans are ruing the end of American Idol, it appears that the popular Fox singing competition may not be over yet as host Ryan Seacrest hinted about its possible return during the show's finale in April.

"One more time - this is so tough - we say to you from Hollywood, good night, America," he said. And then, just as the show faded black, he said "for now."

XIX Entertainment CEO Simon Fuller has also teased about the possible comeback of American Idol in an interview with LA Times where he revealed his feelings about the competition's farewell season.

"I think we probably felt [the end] was slightly premature," he said. "So, it was kind of like, hand on, before we start banging the nails in the coffin..."

American Idol began in 2002 and has produced a number of singers including Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Phillip Phillips, Jennifer Hudson, and Chris Daughtry.

Its participants have also brought honor to the show as their releases have hit No. 1 (459 songs to date) and won a number of awards including 13 Grammys and 14 Academy of Country Music Awards. They also have launched their careers on Broadway and TV. "No other show has produced as many stars," Seacrest noted. "It's impressive."

Fuller has admitted that American Idols may return. He revealed that he was "absolutely bursting with ideas" while talking about how to revamp the show to appeal to the present generation. "Certainly the advent of the real digital age, real interactivity and live-streaming, throws up a whole host of interesting opportunities," he told LA Times.
