‘Into the Woods’ actress Anna Kendrick in talks to star in still-untitled Disney’s Santa Claus film

"Into the Woods" actress Anna Kendrick is in negotiations to star in the still-untitled Disney's Santa Claus film. "Miss Congeniality" writer Marc Lawrence is attached to direct from his original script.

Kendrick is expected to play the titular character Nicole Claus in the still-untitled Disney's Santa Claus film, which is currently going by the running title "Nicole," Variety reported. Her character is the daughter of Santa Claus.

The still-untitled Disney's Santa Claus film revolves around Nicole who is being forced to take over the family business when her father decided to retire and her brother ends up getting cold feet prior to his first big Christmas Eve flight. Her brother was supposed to inherit the role of Santa.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Alice in Wonderland" producer Susanne Todd is producing the still-untitled Disney's Santa Claus film. "Grasshopper" production manager Louie Provost is overseeing for the Disney.

Reports suggest that the still-untitled Disney's Santa Claus film is not a musical, but Kendrick might end up indulging her musical side. She already appeared in a Disney movie when she starred as Cinderella in the film adaptation of the hit musical "Into the Woods." She also voiced one of the leads in DreamWorks Animations' animated feature "Trolls" and is in production on "Pitch Perfect 3," which is expected to bow on Dec. 22.

Kendrick is coming off a busy 2016 which included the Warner Bros. pic "The Accountant," the Fox comedy "Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates", the Sundance's romance comedy "The Hollars," and the recently released wedding pic "Table 19." She is repped by CAA and Morris Yorn Barnes Levine Krintzman Rubenstein & Kohner.

For Lawrence, the still-untitled Disney's Santa Claus film marks his first directing gig since the Hugh Grant film "The Rewrite." He also directed "Did You Hear About the Morgans" and the 2007 romantic comedy "Music and Lyrics" in which he also wrote the script. He got his start as a writer-producer on "Family Ties" and is repped by UTA.

No production details are unveiled yet for the still-untitled Disney's Santa Claus film.
