Ryan Murphy has set his sights on a political scandal for a future installment of "American Crime Story."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the creator/showrunner of the Emmy-winning anthology series is looking to explore the scandal of Monica Lewinsky and her alleged affair with US ex-president Bill Clinton. As early as now, Murphy and FX have already optioned Jeffrey Toobin's best-selling book, "A Vast Conspiracy: The Real Sex Scandal That Nearly Brought Down a President" as source material.

The first season of "American Crime Story" is also based on Toobin's book, "The Run of His Life: The People v. O.J. Simpson." Seasons 2 and 3 of the miniseries, meanwhile, will tackle the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and the assassination of famous designer Gianni Versace. The cable network is eyeing for a 2018 release date for Season 2's Katrina.

Should Murphy moves forward with Lewinsky's scandal, it is expected that Toobin will play a big role in developing the story. Back in season 1, he served as a consultant to Murphy's writing staff.

No other plot details were made available. But the site is reporting that Murphy's team is already fast-tracking the project and also meeting with potential actresses to play Lewinsky and her colleague Linda Tripp, who secretly recorded Lewinsky's conversations about her alleged affair with Clinton.

At the recent Television Critics Association (TCA) winter press tour, FX has also granted two more seasons to "American Horror Story." Per Variety, the official announcement guarantees that the horror anthology series will still be on air until 2019. Previewing what's ahead, Murphy said that the upcoming seventh season will be set on a modern day period while also revealing that Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters are already on board with the project.

In the case of Murphy's horror-comedy, "Scream Queens," there's no word yet if the series is getting renewed for a third season. However, FOX said that they plan to make the official announcement by May of this year.
