"Patriots Day" actor John Goodman is in talks to star in Rupert Wyatt's next sci-fi movie "Captive State." He is doubling down with "The Gambler" director Wyatt.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the details about the plot for "Captive State" have yet to emerge and are being kept under wraps. However, it will have a sci-fi angle. It is also unknown what role Goodman will be playing.

Wyatt will direct "Captive State" from a script he co-wrote with his wife, "The Battle of Shaker Heights" screenwriter Erica Beeney, Variety reported. The producers are Wyatt and David Crockett alongside Jeff Skoll and Jonathan King of Participant Media as executive producers. Participant Media is producing and recently won a heated bidding war for the spec, beating out a handful of suitors, including FilmNation Entertainment.

Goodman worked with Wyatt on his 2014 remake of "The Gambler," alongside Mark Wahlberg and Brie Larson. He is no stranger to sci-fi since he was last seen on the big screen in Dan Trachtenberg's "10 Cloverfield Lane" from producer J.J. Abrams. He most recently starred in Peter Berg's upcoming Boston Marathon bombing film "Patriots Day."

Goodman will next appear in "Kong: Skull Island" and "The Coldest City" opposite Charlize Theron. He is also lending his voice to the next "Transformers" movie, "Transformers: The Last Knight," starring Mark Wahlberg, and Luc Besson's "Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets," which will be released in theaters next summer.

Goodman is represented by Gersh. On the other hand, Wyatt is repped by UTA and Gang Tyre and has been working in the highly anticipated "Exorcist" TV reboot. Wyatt's past credits include "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" and "The Escapist."

"Captive State" will be released through Participant's output deal with Amblin Partners, with Focus Features handling distribution domestically and eOne launching the rights in the U.K., Australia, New Zealand, Spain, and the Benelux countries. Shooting is scheduled to start in early 2017.
