"Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D" character Daisy Johnson a.k.a Skye (Chloe Bennet) could reportedly take on the mantle of director for the fictional organization.

In an interview, co-showrunner Jed Whedon said that it is possible but she must first be reacquainted with the organization. He said Coulson thinks Daisy can handle more of a leadership role but that arc has yet to take place in the series, Entertainment Weekly reported.

"We've hinted at it a bit, that Coulson thinks she can play more of a leadership role. We'll see how it goes, and where the story takes her. She's been through a lot so that usually turns someone from a rookie into a seasoned veteran, which is what you need to lead. We'll see if she steps up to the plate."

In the comic books, Johnson was stated as the director of S.H.I.E.L.D after Steve Rogers a.k.a Captain America decided to reactivate the organization. This led her to join the "Avengers" main team for quite some time.

Within the MCU however, the character's origins had as Coulson's hacker prodigy originally known as Skye. In "Agents of S.H.I.E.LD," the character has been reimagined as an Inhuman and aspects of interpretation of the character were later integrated in the comic books.

Elsewhere, the threat of LMDs has become apparent in the second half of "AoS" Season 4. The series will continue to tackle the integration of artificial intelligence in a covert organization like S.H.I.E.L.D, Superherohype reported.

The synopsis reads: "On the heels of their encounter with Ghost Rider, their strangest phenomenon yet, the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. suddenly find themselves up against a myriad of new and ongoing threats: The anti-Inhuman Watchdogs are gaining political influence with Senator Nadeer, and uniting behind a mysterious benefactor. Meanwhile, unbeknownst to the team, Aida has kidnapped Agent May and replaced her with a Life Model Decoy. Aida's evil plans for May and the team remain a mystery."

"Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D" will return on January 10, 2017.
