HBO breakout series "Westworld" will not be returning for another season until 2018. In an interview, Luke Hemsworth said that the showrunners want to "get it right."
Creator Jonathan Nolan said that he felt they sped ahead too quickly in Season 1 despite the delay on its production. He explained that they had to shoot a handful of episodes in hand to get "Westworld" on air as early as possible but nothing has prepared them for the big production requirements of the show.
"[Westworld is] a period piece and a science fiction film. Literally everything you put in front of the camera has to be built, designed, [or] bought. So it's just an extremely complicated show to mount and put together. The network's been extremely supportive," he told io9.
In an interview, "Westworld" star Luke Hemsworth who plays Ashley Stubbs on the series explained that the crew does not want to rush things. He said they want to approach the second season with a clear plan.
"They are trying to get it right. They don't want to go in doing what they were doing last time where they were under the cosh the whole time. They want to go in with a clear plan - A to Z and everything in between - at least have drafts in place," he told Independent.
HBO is reportedly lenient when it comes to deadlines which has been confirmed by HBO Programming Chief Casey Bloys who announced that the show might not return until 2018. Furthermore, he went to stress that the ratings are not the only factors in their decision to renew.
"Westworld" is a new critically sci-fi television series from HBO. Presently on its first season, the show is averaging 11.7 million viewers across all the network's platforms.
