Fuji TV has announced that Mengo Yokoyari's “Scum’s Wish” or “Kuzu no Honkai” manga series is getting a live-action television series which will premiere on January 18, 2017. The television series stars Miyu Yoshimoto as Hanabi Yasuraoka, and Dōri Sakurada as Mugi Awaya.
However, the pilot episode will be aired hours in advance online via Fuji TV On Demand, according to Anime News Network.
Aside from the live-action television series, "Scum's Wish" is also getting a television anime adaptation which will premiere on January 12 via Fuji TV's Noitamina block.
The live action series will be under the helm of Shōgo Miyaki and Shunsuke Shinada, with scripts from Ere Hagiwara and Motoko Takahashi. Yui Kouchi is tasked to handle the composition of music.
Other cast members include Kōki Mizuta as Narumi Kanai, Sarii Ikegami as Sanae Ebato, and Rina Aizawa as Akane Minagawa.
On the other hand, the "Kuzu no Honkai" anime series will be under the direction of "School-Live!" director Masaomi Andō while Makoto Uezu of "Akame ga KILL!" and "The Heroic Legend of Arslan" will handle the series music. The anime series will be based on the scripts courtesy of Studio Lerche.
"Scum's Wish" or "Kuzu no Honkai" has been serialized in Square Enix's seinen manga magazine Big Gangan since 2012. It has also been digitally published in English by Crunchyroll, while Yen Press handles its print publication in North America. The story of "Scum's Wish" is described by Crunchyroll as follows:
"Hanabi and Mugi are bathed in envious gazers from all around as a beautiful couple with excellent moral conduct. But these two apparently perfect people in an apparently perfect relationship share a secret they can't tell anyone."
According to My Anime List, the manga is about two teenagers Mugi Awaya and Hanabi Yasuraoka who appear to be the ideal couple. However, what other people do not know is that Mugi and Hanabi have hopeless crushes on someone else, and they are only dating each other to soothe their loneliness.
In each other, Mugi and Hanabi find a place where they can grieve for the ones they cannot have, and at the same time, they share physical intimacy driven by loneliness.
