This year's live action film on the hit anime "Death Note" will have Kenichi Matsuyama back as the legendary detective L, eight years after first playing the role in the 2008 film "L Change the World".

Crunchyroll reported that the 31 year old actor's L will have a brief appearance in the upcoming "Death Note Light up the NEW world". He played first the role in 2006 and again in the 2008 spin off. He was even nominated for the best supporting actor award for his performance as L in the 30th Japan Academy Prize.

In a separate report by Anime News Network, Matsuyama expressed his joy of once again playing L in the big screen. In fact, it only took him three minutes to become L again, even though he grew apart from the role mentally and physically.

However, it is not stated if whether L will appear as part of the film's main story, or as part of a flashback. Confirmed, however, is that L sends his message to his righteous successor Ryuzaki to explain why he decided to use the Death Note to stop Light Yagami 10 years ago.

But in this new film, 2016 is a highly advanced information society beset by global cyber-terrorism. New charismatic figures have emerged, who "inherited the DNA" of Light and the detective L. These successors of the two aforementioned geniuses will wage a war over six Death Notes on Earth.

Per Crunchyroll, this new film will have a crucial plot element will be the "Six Note Rule". This rule means that only six Death Notes are allowed to exist at a time in the human world. Thus, only six shinigamis may only exist in the world at a single time. This rule has all been present in the original manga series but previous adaptations have totally disregarded this one.

The film also stars Masaki Suda ("Assasination Classrom"), Sousuke Ikematsu ("The Last Samurai"), Masahiro Higashide ("Parasyte"), Rina Kawaei ("Azumi: Bakumatsu-hen" stage play), and Eiichiro Funakoshi. Shinsuke Sato ("Gantz") is directing the film.

The film will be distributed by Warner Brothers Japan in Japan from October 29.
