2016 saw superhero themes dominating pop culture with Marvel and DC characters, especially the former, earning massive revenues through box office behemoths and several primetime series. In television, for instance, the CW saw its DC universe expands with "Arrow" joined by "The Flash", "Legends of Tomorrow", and "Supergirl".

Netflix, the streaming giant, is also up with the trend having several characters from the Marvel universe been green lighted for series order. Like that of the CW, Netflix's Marvel series are also hour long drama about crime fighting heroes in costume.

But this superhero themed drama series abounding primetime would soon change with the arrival of NBC's comedy set in the DC universe. "Powerless" is workplace comedy starring "High School Musical" star Vanessa Hudgens, Danny Pudi of "Community", Ron Funches of "Undateable", and 'Firefly" actor Alan Tudyk.

According to Screen Rant, "Powerless" has joined NBC's midseason schedule and will premiere on February 2, 2017. It will join sophomore comedy "Superstore" in the Peacock network's still struggling but slightly improved Thursday line-up.

The news of "Powerless" finally getting a premiere date is welcomed by fans who are highly anticipating for the show. When it was announced that NBC ordered the show for its 2016-2017 season, "Powerless" has generated so much buzz owing to its unique concept, a situational comedy set among superheroes.

But "Powerless" being aired has become uncertain when it was not included among the shows premiering in the Fall season. It has further went into limbo when its original creator and showrunner left the show after citing creative differences, Deadline reported.

"Powerless" is one of the hottest last-hour pitches ordered by NBC, which is enjoying a good season with its recent success with "This Is Us". "Powerless" is hoped to finally help NBC find success in the comedy department.

"Powerless" follows a group of insurance workers living in a world where DC superheroes are fighting crime and equally super powered villains. The comedy series stars Hudgens as Emily Locke, who becomes a cult hero among peers after she stood up to one of her city's heroes.

The series will give a different perspective on the world of superheroes where the focus is no longer with the crime-fighting super humans. "Powerless" will be told through the eyes of the ordinary beings living accustomed with all the fightings, flying, and perhaps, explosions.

"Powerless" will premiere on NBC on Thursday, February 2, 2017 at 8:30pm ET/PT.
