Beefing up its original programming within the realm of science fiction genre, Syfy has launched this year a new series which enjoyed a moderate level of success after the conclusion of its first season last April 2016. "The Magicians" is now one of Syfy's flagship programs, in addition to its already stellar inventory of rerun shows such as "Battlestar Galactica".
It was no surprise that Syfy renewed the show for a second season, albeit complaints from critics as to its slow storytelling. The show was, however, praised for its stunning visuals and special effects. Fans are now excited for the second season, expecting some improvements especially on its dialogue-heavy episodes, Screen Rant reported.
While "The Magicians" season 1 mostly took place in a hidden world, denied from the consciousness of the mortals; "The Magicians" season 1 will most likely take place in the magical land of Fillory. The place was already mentioned several times in season 1, becoming one of the show's recurring themes.
Based on the trailer, "The Magicians" season 2 will most likely continue where the story season 1 left off. There are no information yet as to the storyline of the upcoming second season, but clues were left in the open upon the release of its revelatory trailer. The said trailer highlighted "The Magicians" season 2 darker themes.
In fact, the trailer closed with the line "This is no fantasy". It is a warning of what are to happen which is then followed by a quick recap of everything that has happened so far in Fillory and in the magical school of Brakebills.
The show's protagonists will still deal with the mysterious antagonist called the Beast as the trailer was filled with intense and chilling imagery, combined with the haunting rendition of the song "A-Hunting We Will Go". The trailer also promises some good action come season 2, which is a relief considering how slow the pacing was in season 1.
"The Magicians" season 2 premieres on January 25, 2017, 9PM, on Syfy.
