It's official. A UFC fighter is joining the upcoming seventh season of HBO's "Game of Thrones" in the form of Conor McGregor.
In the past few days, the professional mixed martial artist has been rumored to make an appearance on "Game of Thrones" Season 7. Now, the fansite Watchers on the Wall is confirming that McGregor has indeed signed up to make a guest appearance on the fantasy series.
According to the site, McGregor has been tapped by the producers to make a cameo appearance and will only be playing a small part with no lines involved. As much as fans would want to see him act, it looks like that he will not. Instead, viewers will find the MMA fighter playing a pirate on the show.
Details on his small arc are scarce, but the site said that McGregor's pirate character is on the side of Euron Greyjoy. The casting bit also revealed that the ship is called "Silence."
The news comes after UFC boss Dana White addressed McGregor's involvement on "Game of Thrones" Season 7. In an interview with Fox Sports Live (via TMZ), White said: "I knew that a few months ago that they were interested in putting him in the show. And I'm glad he did it. It'll be great."
"Game of Thrones" is not new in featuring cameo appearances. In the past seasons, the show has also booked Coldplay drummer, Will Champion and Snow Patrol lead vocalist, Gary Lightbody.
Based on George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire novels, "Game of Thrones" is an epic fantasy series set in the world of Westeros where the Seven Kingdoms battle for the Iron Throne. The series stars Emilia Clarke, Isaac Hempstead-Wright, Kit Harrington, Lena Headey, Liam Cunningham, Maisie Williams, Sophie Turner, Peter Dinklage, and Nikolaj Coaster-Waldau.
"Game of Thrones" Season 7 premieres in the summer of 2017 on HBO.
