The upcoming reboot of "Tomb Raider" has found its villain.

In a report from Variety, it was announced that Vice Principals actor Walton Goggins is in final negotiations to play the film's villain. Details on his character are still under wraps. He will co-star the film with lead actress Alicia Vikander, who will play Lara Croft.

Goggins' recent film credits include "The Hateful Eight," "Django Unchained," and "The Bourne Identity." He will be seen next on the Seal Team Six History Channel series "Six," slated to premiere next year.

The new "Tomb Raider" is said to take inspiration from the most recent video games with the story focusing on a much younger version of Lara Croft before she turned into a seasoned adventurer. Norwegian director is set to helm the film with a script penned by Geneva Robertson-Dworet.

Film producer Graham King recently previewed the plot of the upcoming reboot in a chat with Hey U Guys (via Collider), revealing that it will be told as an origin story.

"Well this is kind of what we call a 'back to the roots story'," King said.

"This is a young Lara Croft in search to see if her father is dead or alive, so it has a very emotional part to it and i think that's what Alicia found so interesting about it. I think the storytelling is really good and i think we've got the right crew and a great director and I think it's going to be really fun making a film like this."

The original "Tomb Raider" video game debuted in 1996 by Eidos and is now part of Square Enix. After selling over 35 million units, the company released a reboot in 2013 with a 21 year-old Lara Croft going on her first big adventure.

The two big screen adaptation of "Tomb Raider" which starred Angelina Jolie grossed $432 million in the box office globally.

The film's reboot will hit theaters on March 16, 2018.
