"Crazy, Stupid, Love." comedian Steve Carell is in talks to join Warner Bros.' vidgame pic "Minecraft: The Movie." He is creeping toward the uber-popular video game adaptation.

Carell is rumored to play as himself Steve in "Minecraft: The Movie." However, Warner Bros. had no comment on the casting, Variety reported. It acquired film right to the video game franchise in February from Swedish developer Mojang AB.

Warner Bros. set up "Minecraft: The Movie" with Roy Lee through his Vertigo Entertainment production company, alongside "Mean Girls" Jill Messick. Rob McElhenney is on board to direct.

McElhenney also wrote the latest draft with "Wonder Woman" scribe Jason Fuchs. He co-created, stars, and writes for the veteran FX/FXX comedy "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia," Deadline reported.

According to Variety, "Minecraft" game debuted in 2009 and is based on the open world PC game and app. It allows players to create their own avatars and build an environment using textured cubes in a 3D world as they battle nocturnal monsters. It comes with various players and multiple gameplay modes that are available such as creative mode, survival mode, and adventure mode.

In recent years, Carell has balanced high-profile commercial films like "Crazy Stupid Love" and "Anchorman 2" with prestige movies like "Foxcatcher" and "The Big Short," which earned him some of the best reviews of his career.

Carell was most recently seen in Woody Allen's "Cafe Society" and recently wrapped production as Bobby Riggs on Fox Searchlight's "Battle of the Sexes," opposite Emma Stone (Billie Jean King). He is represented by WME and Media Four.

Carell is also a six-time Emmy nominee for playing Michael Scott on NBC's "The Office." He most recently appeared on the big screen in "Cafe Society." He is also the voice behind Gru in the "Despicable Me" films.

"Minecraft: The Movie" will be in 3D and Imax and is set to bow on May 25, 2019.
