"The Eccentric Family" is undoubtedly a hit when it was released in 2013 as an adaptation of the comedy-drama novel written by Tomihiko Morimi. Upon publication of the novel's sequel in 2015, it was announced that a season 2 of the anime based on it is already in production.

The announcement of "The Eccentric Family" season 2 has resulted to clamor among fans for any news and details of the upcoming follow up of the hit anime. As a response, the team behind the anime has announced that there will be an event to celebrate the second season.

According to Otaku News, the UNESCO heritage site of Shimogamo Shrine in Kyoto City will play host to an anime event for the first time. Tickets for the said event were raffled on November 28, while the regular tickets will be opened for sale on Christmas day, December 25.

Fans who will be attending the event can look forward to many exciting activities, including a ceremony to celebrate the series success. It will include a Kagami opening ceremony at the shrine, announcement of "The Eccentric Family" season 2 cast members and details on its opening and closing themes, and the release of the anime's main visuals.

The proceeds from the event's ticket sales will be donated to the Shimogamo Shrine, where participants will be watching the event in a special area located at the front of the shrine. The participants will also receive special tokens comprised of merchandise from sponsors, including a fluffy tanuki poncho.

It was in 2013 when the anime adapted the novel of the same name written by Tomihiko Morimi. The anime is set in Kyoto, where tanuki (shape-shifting raccoon-dogs), tengu (long-nosed goblins of Japanese folklore), and humans intermingle.

According to Anime News Network, "The Eccentric Family" season 1 won the Excellence Award at the 17th Japan Media Arts Festival Awards in 2013. Following its win, the series was streamed by Crucnhyroll and in January 2015, "The Eccentric Family" was released by NIS America on Blu-ray Disc.
