As part of the 10th anniversary celebration of the "Code Geass" franchise, Japanese production company Sunrise recently announced that it will releasing new projects that are currently being developed, including a new anime series and a film trilogy. The production firm which has gained popularity with its "Gundam" and "Ultraman" series said that it will release a third series under the "Code Geass" mythology.

According to Screen Rant, this third series being developed by Sunrise is titled "Code Geass: Lelouch of the Ressurrection". This will be the first incarnation of the series from the "Code Geass" franchise since it first ended in 2008. It is already expected that the third series will time skip of several years from the events of the last series, "Zero Requiem".

There are still no exact details as to the story and plot of "Code Geass" season 3. But anime director Goro Taniguchi confirmed during the "Code Geass" 10th anniversary event that the main protagonist Lelouch Lamperouge, formerly Lelouch vi Brittania, will be back for the season 3, Otakumo Japan reported.

Lelouch supposedly died in season 2 and Taniguchi said that his return will not be because of a Lelouch clone, nor the series will be set in an alternate universe. Lelouch will be back and alive for good.

Aside from the series, fans will also be welcomed with another treat, a film trilogy recapping the story and events of the entire series. This means that the film trilogy will be a comprehensive and cohesive review of the 25-episode of the original series, "Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion", and the 25-episode of the sequel series "Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2".

The film trilogy will be a perfect project to win new fans who are not ready to invest time for the 50 episode total of the first two series. The first installment of the film trilogy is due for release in 2017.

Aside from the two series mentioned, the "Code Geass" franchise also includes a five-part spinoff series "Code Geass: Akito the Exiled". This series features events that have taken place between season 1 and season 2.
